- **Event Description**: Join the Blackstone River Watershed Council/Friends of the Blackstone as we welcome the North Smithfield Heritage Association (NSHA) for a fascinating presentation exploring the history, restoration, and future of Mammoth Mill Park.

    Located along the Blackstone River in historic Waterford Village, the Mammoth Mill was once one of the largest textile mills in the United States and played an important role in the region’s industrial heritage. Presenter Rich Keene, President of the North Smithfield Heritage Association, will share the story of the mill, the rise and decline of Waterford Village, and the remarkable efforts underway to preserve and interpret this historic landscape.

     Since 2023, BRWC/FOB has partnered with the NSHA, the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, the National Park Service, and local volunteers to conduct cleanups and restoration work at Mammoth Mill Park. Together, we have helped transform an overgrown and forgotten industrial site into a community asset that celebrates both the Blackstone River’s natural resources and its rich history.

    The presentation will also highlight future plans for the park, including habitat restoration, native plantings, interpretive signage, public access improvements, and opportunities for community involvement. Whether you are interested in local history, conservation, recreation, or the Blackstone River, this free event offers a unique opportunity to learn about one of the watershed’s most significant restoration projects.
 
      This program is free and open to the public. We encourage community members, volunteers, history enthusiasts, and river advocates to attend and discover how historic preservation and environmental stewardship are working together to revitalize the Blackstone Valley.
