Journey into the Abstract: 2 Day Course

Break free from representation and explore the exciting world of abstract art with artists Ellie Benton and Phil Bowman. This immersive 2 day course will transform the way you see and create, guiding you from starting points into pure abstraction.

Time: 10-4pm each day

Location: The Salthouse, Free School Lane, Lincoln, LN2 1EY

What You'll Explore:

Over 2 days, you'll discover how to move beyond literal representation and embrace the freedom of abstract thinking. Working with paint and mixed media, you'll learn techniques to loosen your approach and create compelling abstract works that express feeling, energy, and imagination.

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Leading to Abstraction

Begin your journey by abstracting the figure, working from a clothed model as we intentionally steer you away from representational drawing. Then we’ll explore abstracting the landscape - using a landscape as your starting point, we'll show you techniques to think abstractly and make your own unique image.

Day 2: Pure Abstraction

Experiment with mark making and discover different ways of applying paint with a limited palette. Learn how restrictions can unlock creativity. Then create purely abstract paintings, letting go of the recognisable and embracing spontaneity and expression.
