This workshop introduces the principles of PHR and how they can drive meaningful public & patient involvement in health research. It will include a role-playing exercise where participants can experience collaboration from the perspectives of various stakeholders.Facilitated by: Jon Salsberg and Alison JohnsonAbout Jon: Jon is an Associate Professor of Primary Healthcare Research - Public & Patient Involvement in the UL School of Medicine. He is a public health researcher with a background in health promotion and the anthropology of development. Jon has more than 20 years of experience working in partnered research along with patients, community members and organisations, service providers and other decision-makers, and particularly in Indigenous communities. Jon’s main research interests are in understanding the social-relational dimensions of research partnerships and how they affect health outcomes.About Alison: During her working life, Alison had opportunities to be involved in medical research as a participant, while working as a biomedical research technician. She was also involved with aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion with staff and with students. After retirement to the northeast of England she was a participant in more research studies and also became a member of the Gateshead LongTerm Conditions Group which was set up with the aim of improving the experience of people with long term conditions at the primary care level. Since moving to Ireland, she has used her experiences as both a PPI Contributor and as a PPI reviewer for the Health Research Board and Health Research Charities Ireland.
