Ready to trade your daypack for a multi-day adventure? Join a supportive community of women for a 3-day, immersion into the heart of the Stein Valley Nlaka'pamux Heritage Park. This program is designed for hikers who are comfortable on the trails but perhaps new to the art of overnight wilderness travel, or those just looking to connect with other like-minded outdoorsy women!

In a low-pressure, collaborative environment, we’ll bridge the gap between "hiker" and "backpacker," all while connecting with the deep cultural history of the Lower Stein Valley. Known to the Nlaka’pamux people as Stagyn “The Hidden Place,” this protected valley is one of the last unlogged watersheds in the Southern Interior and holds a spirit unlike anywhere else in British Columbia.

This isn’t just a hike; it’s a walk through a living landscape shaped by time, culture, and resilience. We’ll travel through dry, vanilla-scented Ponderosa pine forests, pausing to reflect on the impacts of wildfire, the stories held in ancient rock art, and the powerful turquoise waters of the Stein River.

Over three days and 17 kilometres, we’ll build backcountry skills while engaging in place-based learning. Together, we’ll explore the rich cultural history of the Stein Valley, its significance as a stronghold against logging, and the remarkable ecology that makes this valley so extraordinary.

Itinerary:
The program consists of 3 sessions that are crucial to the group's success and enjoyment so all three are MANDATORY for all participants to attend.

1.) Online Meeting - Wednesday, May 13, 2026
7-9pm “Pack and Plan”: A Gear and trip planning online meeting:
We will get to know each other, discuss the plan for the backpacking trip, discuss the gear you have and suggest gear you may need to change or acquire. We will also talk about meal planning and other logistics

2.) Test Hike - Saturday, May 30, 202
9am-1pm A half-day test run hike in Hope
Before we head hours into the backcountry, we will practice together carrying our heavy overnight packs on the Thacker Mountain Loop trail in Hope. Please practice packing your gear as you would for our trip, test the weight distribution, make necessary adjustments and get a real feel of what to expect with your weighted overnight backpack before we enter the backcountry. Please ensure you wear the same footwear and backpack with ALL the gear you plan to use for the trip. Please let us know if you need help with packing!
