3. oktobrī Pegaza Pagalmā atsāksies džeza koncertu sērija "P-JAZZ". Mēs aicinām jūs uz īpasu koncertu, kurā uz mūsu Viesistabas skatuves kāps trio AfuriKo - unikāls projekts, kas iemieso muzikālu dialogu starp kontinentiem.

Tā sākotnējo sastāvu veidoja perkusioniste Akiko Horii un taustiņinstrumentālists Džims Fannels (Jim Funnell), kuri savā mūzikā apvieno Āfrikas ritmisko mantojumu ar mūsdienu džeza harmonijām un improvizāciju. Šobrīd AfuriKo uzstājas trio sastāvā kopā ar  saksofonistu Nino Vengeru (Nino Wenger), paplašinot skanējumu un improvizācijas iespējas.

Projekts aizsākās Parīzē 2010. gadā, kad mākslinieku kopīgā aizraušanās ar Āfrikas kultūru un tās diasporu pārtapa radošā sadarbībā. Kopš tā laika viņu mūzika ir attīstījusies kā dzīvs, spontāns dialogs starp djembe senajām skaņām un mūsdienu taustiņinstrumentu krāsu paleti.

AfuriKo skanējumu raksturo bagātīga stilistiskā daudzveidība – tajā saplūst džezs, fanks, regejs un pasaules mūzikas tradīcijas. AfuriKo ir koncertējuši visā pasaulē – Eiropā, ASV, Japānā un citviet, uzstājoties tādās prestižās vietās kā London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, ShapeShifter Lab un citos nozīmīgos festivālos un koncertzālēs. Viņu radošo darbību ietekmējusi arī dzīve Ņujorkā, kur daudzveidīgā kultūru vide bagātināja viņu muzikālo valodu.

Koncerts Pegaza Pagalmā solās būt enerģisks un meditatīvs ceļojums vienlaikus – starp ritmu un klusumu, tradīciju un mūsdienīgumu, saknēm un brīvību. Savukārt vakara turpinājumā sekos džemsesija, kurā improvizēt uz skatuves kopā ar viesmāksliniekiem aicināts ikviens džeza mīlētājs!

On October 3, the jazz concert series “P-JAZZ” will resume at Pegaza Pagalms. We invite you to a special concert where the trio AfuriKo will take the stage at our venue - a unique project embodying a musical dialogue between continents.

The original lineup consisted of percussionist Akiko Horii and keyboardist Jim Funnell, who combine the rhythmic heritage of Africa with contemporary jazz harmonies and improvisation in their music. Today, AfuriKo performs as a trio together with saxophonist Nino Wenger, expanding their sound and improvisational possibilities.

The project began in Paris in 2010, when the artists’ shared passion for African culture and its diaspora evolved into a creative collaboration. Since then, their music has developed as a living, spontaneous dialogue between the ancient sounds of the djembe and the modern palette of keyboards.

AfuriKo’s sound is characterized by a rich stylistic diversity - blending jazz, funk, reggae, and world music traditions. The group has performed worldwide - in Europe, the United States, Japan, and elsewhere - appearing at prestigious venues such as the London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, ShapeShifter Lab, and other major festivals and concert halls. Their creative work has also been influenced by life in New York, where a diverse cultural environment enriched their musical language.

The concert at Pegaza Pagalms promises to be both an energetic and meditative journey - between rhythm and silence, tradition and modernity, roots and freedom. The evening will continue with a jam session, where any jazz lover is invited to improvise on stage together with guest musicians.
