2020 Dog Lovers Show Sydney
This might just be the cutest convention of all time. Every year, the Sydney Dog Lovers Show enchants the puppy obsessed population of Sydney with a whole weekend of doggo competitions, parades, meet-and-greets and care tips. So if you can’t help beaming at passing pooches and talk to dogs before their owners, you should reserve August 3-4 for the Sydney Showground event.
If you’re missing a furry friend in your life, there’s an adoption information zone at the show, where you’ll learn about selecting the right kind of dog for your home and understand all the steps involved in finding your newest family member. And if you’re already a puppy parent and just in it for the cuddles, meet adorable floofs at the Pat-a-Pooch area (the pats are always in high demand), before checking out the fluffiest pomeranians and the most elegant Afghan hounds at the Breed Showcase. There’s more than 50 breeds strutting their stuff, and you can pick your favourite style and get your face painted to resemble the nobel breed.
As in previous years, there’ll be a focus on dog athletics, with a sheep dog speed trial, performances in skipping and aquatic competitions in water-based leaping and retrieving. But if you like your pooches a little more glam, you can cosy up with some of the dog stars of Instagram at the Insta-Pooch Red Carpet instead. They're also hosting a human and dog yoga session for the first time.
Looking for some pup parent life advice? Head to the main stage for talks in training and dog care from TV vets like Dr Katrina Warren and professional dog trainer Kelly Gill with her incredibly bright back of border collies, the Wonderdogs. Once you’re armed with this knowledge, hit the pet stalls for dog toys, treats, food and more puppy paraphernalia.
Unfortunately, since there’s so much going on in the partially indoor venue, you won’t actually be able to bring your own furry best pal. But they’re sure to thank you once you come home with a car full of treats.
