Discover Common Threads, a remarkable community-created table runner that celebrates creativity, friendship and togetherness.

Created in partnership with The Fabric Vault, the project began with a simple idea: to create a table runner for the magnificent Fenland Black Oak Table during its year-long stay at Lichfield Cathedral. 

Hundreds of people from across the community contributed a square, including individuals, schools, community groups, businesses and craft clubs. Together, they created a unique textile artwork that tells stories of local life, personal memories, passions and shared experiences.

From cats and clock towers to rainbows and tomatoes, every square has its own story. Woven together, they form a powerful symbol of collective creativity and community spirit.

The project was even admired by King Charles III during his visit to the Cathedral in 2024.
