The skills course was developed by the League of American Bicyclists to benefit young riders of all ages but is generally best suited for rising 4th through 9th graders. 

The course, which takes 20-30 minutes to complete, starts by teaching helmet fit and bike checks, then builds through a progression of skills and strategies ranging from tricks for smooth starts and stops, to more advanced skills like obstacle avoidance and using hand signals, up to how to properly navigate crosswalks (younger kids) and neighborhood intersections. The final station involves applying all the skills learned up to this point. 

Participants must bring their own helmet and a bicycle in good working order. No E-bikes allowed. Parents are encouraged to watch. 

Skills Course will be overseen by League Cycling Instructors with the League of American Bicyclists. 

Check In anytime between 8:45 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. on May 30. The course will take place at the Northwest corner of Highland Middle School (blacktop and parking lot).

Pre-registration online is mandatory for this event. A registration form must be completed by an adult for each minor attending the event. Registration is available until May 28, 2026. Registration is available at https://www.libertyville.com/community/explore/bicycling/index.php.
