Ten slow jammers gathered in the common area of Greyline Station on September 28th to play old time music together.
Jo and Mats were back for a visit so we started by playing the Swedish tune, Gardebylaten. Maria announced Rosie’s Woodsongs debut would take place on Monday, October 6. Rosie played the three songs she will perform at Woodsongs which are Sally in the Garden, Black-Eyed Susie, and Keep Me in Your Heart. We are all very excited about this upcoming performance!
In G, we played:
Golden Slippers, Shove that Pig’s Foot, Red Wing, Old Yellow Dog Comes Trotting Through the Meeting House, Seneca Square Dance, Sandy River Belle, Spotted Pony, and New Five Cent Piece (offered by Cale and to be revisited).
We then moved to the key of D and played:
Soldier’s Joy, Julianne Johnson, Midnight on the Water, Angeline the Baker, Ookpik Waltz, Little Liza Jane, Tipping Back the Corn, Booth Shot Lincoln, and finally Rock Andy.
This weekly jam is meant to bring beginners and experienced musicians together. Consider joining the roster of mentors who will help host some of the sessions. Or think about switching from your dominant instrument (or dominant hand!). This is a wonderful opportunity to slow down and focus on technique, to ask questions, and to share tips with new players.
This is an all acoustic, all ages, and all levels SLOWish JAM to play traditional Old-Time music in 3/4 and 4/4 time. No percussion or bass please, unless you are able to keep a VERY steady rhythm (acoustic/U-basses may be amplified).
Consider coming early and trying out Son of a Burger inside the Old North Bar.
