** Celebrate Juneteenth: A Week of Reflection History and Community Unity in Lexington NC

**Type of Event:** Annual Juneteenth week-long events

**Targeted Audience:** Citizens of all ages

✨ Join us for a week filled with meaningful events dedicated to honoring African American history and fostering community unity. In partnership with various local organizations this celebration aims to engage and educate citizens about the rich history and cultural heritage of African Americans in our community.

- **Thursday June 13 2024**

πŸ–ΌοΈ **Open House at Lexington Public Library**

πŸ“ *5:00 PM | Lexington Public Library Annex*

Kick off the celebration with an open house featuring Tonya Lanier's obituary project, encouraging attendees to bring copies of obituaries of family members, community leaders, and others from our African American communities to contribute to this preservation effort.

The Davidson County Historical Museum will promote the African American Heritage Project, offering walk-in scanning sessions for photos of African American families, neighborhoods, churches, and schools to be included in the museum's digital photography collection.

Additionally, the library’s genealogy division will assist with general genealogy research and provide information on marriage licenses and records, the public library will provide summer reading information for youth, how to obtain a library card and more.

The local genealogy society will be on-site to recruit new members and share information. The Friends of the Lexington Library will be accepting membership applications. There will be an update presented on the Lexington (State St) Cemetery, Justice for Charles McNeair. Davidson-Davie Community College will be on site, and a recruiter for substitute teachers' for Lexington City Schools.

Juneteenth shirts will be available for purchase.

Pick up pamphlets from Lexington Tourism and the Lexington Public Library to explore historic African American gravesites throughout Davidson County.

- **Saturday June 15 2024**

πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ **Countywide Gravesite Exploration**

Explore various historic gravesites using the provided pamphlets and join a special memorial service.

A memorial service will be held at Pilgrim Reformed Church, 797 Pilgrim Church Rd. Lexington, NC 27295 at 11:00 am. Descendants and family members are welcome to bring grave dΓ©cor and memorabilia.

Join us for a special Juneteenth celebration and honoring Father's Day service at St. Stephen United Methodist Church.

Participate in an open dialogue and discussion about the history of local Black neighborhoods and communities featuring a moderator and guest speakers.
