- **Event Description**: The Historical Association of Lewiston is pleased to present Vince Schiffert and Joe Rickard with our May program: “The Tuscarora Tradition of Sturgeon Spear Fishing,” on Thursday, May 22, at 7:00 PM at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah Fellowship Hall, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston. 

Vince and Joe’s presentation will focus on the Tuscarora community over time and in different places. They will focus on their connection to the rivers and streams they lived near and the fish they relied on from those waterways. They will discuss the waterways and fishing history from North Carolina to their present community.

Vince Schiffert is a former teacher at the Tuscarora School and the Niagara Wheatfield High School. He is also a member of the Tuscarora History Group and enjoys talking about Tuscarora history. Joe Rickard is a lifelong hunter and outdoorsman. He grew up spear fishing with his dad and uncles on the Niagara River and other local streams. 

This program will also include the Association’s Annual Meeting. There will be a short business discussion before our speakers. Dues-paying members can vote for candidates to fill our Board of Trustees.     

This community event is free and open to all. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Refreshments will be served. Join us and learn about one of our Western New York neighbors’ most prominent activities.
