Beginning with the footsteps we hear at the start of the first song, “Gute Nacht,” Franz Schubert created profound music for every stage of this painful, beautiful, piercing masterpiece . . . once heard, never forgotten. Featuring Randall Scarlata, baritone, and Gilbert Kalish, piano, whose recording of Winterreise was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2019. Pre-concert lecture by world-renowned Schubert scholar, Susan Youens.
