We believe that every person deserves the freedom to be their authentic self, and that our community is richer when everyone belongs. St. John’s UCC in Lewisburg voted to be an ONA (Open and Affirming) congregation more than 7 years ago. In the United Church of Christ, ONA is a designation for congregations and other bodies in the UCC which make a public covenant of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. This ONA commitment is often expanded as a reminder to a commitment to welcoming all cultures, backgrounds, socio-economic statuses, abilities, alongside of the original definition. As part of the St. John’s commitment to ONA it’s our desire to both invite folks to the life and ministry of the church AND to express welcome and support to our neighbors as through community engagement and advocacy. For the last several years, members have participated in Pride, Diversity and other community events to support and encourage the beautiful diversity of all!
