Join Carol Flueckiger, Professor of Art at Texas Tech University, for a hands-on drawing workshop that blends fundamental drawing techniques with meaningful conversations about playa wetland ecosystems.
Playa wetlands play a vital role in recharging the Ogallala Aquifer and sustaining healthy ecosystems across the Llano Estacado. In this workshop, we’ll explore these powerful landscapes through art, using drawing as a way to observe, reflect, and connect.
Participants will experiment with:
• Negative space drawing to honor the sun–water cycle that fills playas
• Drip drawing to reflect how playas recharge the aquifer
• Continuous line drawing to explore the interconnected flora and fauna within playa wetlands
No matter your skill level, this workshop invites you to slow down, draw with intention, and deepen your connection to the playa ecosystem through creative practice.
