Next movie night is going to be special! We are collaborating with the KU Leuven Latin Americans Society
(https://www.instagram.com/leuven.lat) to bring you all the energy and variety of Latin American cinema. However, to pick a single movie to show from such a huge and rich movie scene, so we need your help! Six movies, each from a different Latin American country, have been shortlisted, and you can vote for which one will be screened at the next Movie Night in this form (voting will close on Friday 17th of October): https://forms.gle/VsUtKRg9HAHLgnmr7
The movies selected are the following:

• La ciénaga (?? Argentina, 2001): Feature debut of director Lucrecia Martel, this movie is a poignant metaphor of societal decay and dissatisfaction. Synopsis: The life of two women and their families in a small provincial town of Salta, Argentina. Trailer: https://youtu.be/iHikpCDL2_I

• I'm Still Here (?? Brasil, 2024): One of the protagonists of 2024's Oscars, this movie tackles the important topic of political persecution through the eyes of a family and their search for answers. Synopsis: A woman married to a former politician during the military dictatorship in Brazil is forced to reinvent herself and chart a new course for her family after a violent and arbitrary act. • The Mole Agent (?? Chile, 2020): A heartwarming documentary about an unusual investigation, this movie is deeply humanist and a celebration of human connection, in any time of their lives. • The Kings of the World (?? Colombia, 2022): This road-movie coming-of-age movie is touching and hopeful, while at the same time tackling complex themes of generational trauma. • Amores Perros (?? Mexico, 2000): First of Iñárritu's "Trilogy of Death" and his feature debut, this movie defined his style and is an incredible example of the so called hyperlink cinema, connecting different characters played by an incredible sprawling cast. Synopsis: An amateur dog fighter, a supermodel, and a derelict assassin, all separately struggling to find love, find their lives transformed by a devastating car wreck in Mexico City. • A Twelve-Year Night (?? Uruguay, 2018): Tackling an important story of political imprisonment and the dramatic situation of prisons in '70s Uruguay, this movie is a tough but important artistic endeavor. Synopsis: 1973. Uruguay is governed by a military dictatorship. One autumn night, three Tupamaro prisoners are taken from their jail cells in a secret military operation.
