- **Event Description**: Danielle Smith’s government is undertaking a massive restructuring of health care delivery. From dismantling Alberta Health Services, to major legislative change, including the passing of Bill 11 in December, change is coming at a rapid pace. Yet, reports from the Auditor General and others are making it increasingly clear that these changes aren’t actually improving patient care, saving money, or increasing capacity. 

Instead, Albertans are seeing a systematic overhaul designed to slowly put an end to single-payer public Medicare and benefit the profits of private health corporations and insurance companies. The speaker will argue that we do not have to succumb to this ploy. As we begin to better understand what this restructuring will mean for our health care, it’s on us to stop the destruction and push for better. One of the most powerful responses we have is to work together and establish certainty amidst the chaos. Together, we can rebuild our public health care system.

Speaker: Chris Gallaway, Executive Director, Friends of Medicare

Chris Gallaway (he/him) is an experienced community organizer and advocate for public health care. Born and raised on a farm in rural Saskatchewan, he has since spent most of his adult life living on Treaty 6 territory, first in Saskatoon, and now for over a decade living in Edmonton. His experience includes working for the Alberta Federation of Labour, in three provincial legislative assemblies, and for a variety of non-profit and community organizations. Outside of work, Chris is an active volunteer and community member, as well as an avid reader.

Date/Time: Thursday, March 5, 2026. The presentation begins at 12 noon & concludes at 1 pm.

Cost is free, donations however, are gratefully accepted.

Location: SACPA sessions are held at Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO), Atrium Dining Room, 500 - 11 Street South, Lethbridge
