Curious about bumble bees and how to identify them? Join the Oldman Watershed Council for Bumble Beebeginners, an engaging, hands-on learning session designed for those new to bumble bee identification.
This interactive workshop offers a close look at real bumble bees from OWC’s pinned insect collection. Participants will explore bumble bee anatomy, learn to recognize common species found in the Oldman watershed, and develop practical identification skills—just in time for spring emergence.
No prior experience is required.
Doors open at 6:00 PM for optional pre-event socializing. The program begins at 6:30 PM with an introduction to bumble bees, followed by a brief overview of identification methods. Participants then spend the remainder of the evening practicing hands-on identification using microscopes and display specimens, with the session wrapping up at 7:30 PM.
All participants will receive a Bumble Bees of Southern Alberta identification brochure and practical knowledge they can apply in the field.
