The Shallows are an exciting, six-piece acoustic band that formed 3 years ago after performing together in the musical, “Once”, with ACT theatre company. Their sound features male and female vocals and harmonies, accompanied by guitar, mandolin, banjo, violin, keyboard and cajon.
In the 3 years since forming they have built a beautiful songbook of eclectic covers, from Stereophonics to The Levellers, stamping them with their own “Shallows-twist”, alongside writing, arranging and performing a number of original songs which they are looking forward to showcasing here, at Baldock Folk Club, when they bring their vocal harmonies and acoustic sounds to The Orange Tree on 25th February 2026.
We’re equally delighted to welcome London-based duo Black*Scarr back to the club following their appearance at the Champagne Fringe Festival at Letchworth Rugby Club last year. Johnny Black and Emma Scarr are two singer songwriters with different styles and influences, but whose co-writing has collided to produce a collection of songs that move audiences to laughter and tears. Honest and gritty, this urban folk/country duo produce songs full of stories and themes that are modern but classic-sounding and timeless, personal and everyday, but still universal. Black*Scarr have become known for live performances bursting with energy and chemistry. Prepare to tap your toes to upbeat melodic country tunes and be touched by hard-hitting, yet poetic lyrics that will stay with you.
Free entry, doors open at 7:00pm. Please bring some cash for the 'hat' and the raffle.
