- **Event Description**: This year we are delighted to present a bill featuring phenomenally talented New England multi-instrumentalist and singer Sam Amidon, who will share the stage with three of Shetland's very finest professional touring musicians: Ross Couper, Amy Laurenson and Norman Willmore.

The night will be opened with a set from outstanding young fiddle-and-guitar duo George Spence and Fraser Jamieson, fresh from having completed recording an album together.

Programmed by Ragged Wood in association with Shetland Arts, this year Da Winter Gadderie will once again be hosted by the wonderful Claire White.

Sam Amidon, hailing from Vermont and now based in London with his wife Beth Orton, is a globally acclaimed musician who plays guitar, fiddle and banjo, and earlier this year appeared on Later... with Jools Holland in support of his seventh album 'Salt River'. He recently finished work on the score for the new Paul Mescal film 'History of Sound', which premiered at Cannes and comes out in the UK in early 2026. A labelmate and peer of groundbreaking American roots artists including Punch Brothers, Sam's wide-ranging CV includes performances and collaborations with Bon Iver, The National, Emmylou Harris, Bruce Hornsby and the Blind Boys of Alabama. The 44-year-old has also appeared as a soloist with classical ensembles including the Kronos Quartet, The Oregon Symphony and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Ross Couper is a well-known fiddle virtuoso with a distinctive style developed in various guises including a long-running duo with Tom Oakes. His explosive playing lies at the heart of mighty Celtic fusion juggernaut Peatbog Faeries, while he has also recorded with guitarist brother Ryan and realised a long-held ambition by releasing 'The Homeroad' as The Ross Couper Band last year.

Saxophonist and keyboardist Norman Willmore has just been nominated for a trio of Scottish Jazz Awards, including instrumentalist of the year. In addition to his exploits in the jazz world he also plays alongside Ross in Peatbog Faeries.

Amy Laurenson has rapidly garnered a reputation for an innovative piano style drawing on traditional, classical and jazz influences. She was 2023 Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year and her 2024 debut album 'Strands' was shortlisted for the SAY (Scottish Album of the Year) prize.
