The natural environment is at the core of Lucy's creative practice, informed by the weather, climate and seasonal changes. Reinforced by an emotional connection to landscape and driven by a strong sense of place and identity as an Islander. Her work is atmospheric and captures a sense of expressive energy, creating a visual reinterpretation of the landscape, through a vivid use of colour and abstraction, responding to a sensory awareness of the surrounding environment.

Process is integral to Lucy's practice, mark making and the physical nature of materials. She uses various surfaces, mediums and techniques, primarily paint and print. Her art intends to evoke a sense of connection with our surrounding landscape, inviting viewers to contemplate their own relationship with the natural environment.

In January, Lucy applied to the Shetland Arts Creative Shetland Commissioning Fund, and was delighted to be one of the successful applicants. She used the funding to take part in a multi-artform residency run in partnership between An Lanntair and Sail Britain. 'Muir is Tìr' - Land and Sea, is based on the Gaelic sea-lore book, of the same name by George Macleod.

Her presentation will reflect on her residency experience, and how this opportunity presented a new perspective, a contrasting view of being on the sea rather than looking out to the sea from the land. The benefits from having dedicated time to focus on art and nature with no distractions, learning and collaboration with other participating artists on the residency. And how this journey has developed her creative practice.

This event will be a 20 minute presentation and then time for facilitated discussion amongst the artists themselves. There will be tea and coffee provided.
