In Reading, Pennsylvania, a group of friends have spent their lives sharing drinks, secrets, and laughs together while working on the factory floor. But when layoffs and picket lines start to chip away at their trust, they find themselves pitted against each other in a struggle to hold on to what used to bring them together. City on a Hill Arts is excited to present this Pulitzer Prize-winning play as a staged reading.

A staged reading is an event in which actors perform using scripts and only minimal staging. There will be 5 rehearsals scheduled around the cast’s availability. Actors who commute from more than 25 miles away will be offered a $50 honorarium to defray travel costs.

Audition Slots:
Sunday March 29th Slots: 3:30 PM, 4:00 PM, 4:30 PM, 5:00 PM, 5:30 PM
Monday March 30th Slots: 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, 7:00 PM, 7:30 PM, 8:00 PM

To sign up for an audition slot, please email director Samantha deManbey at scdemanbey@gmail.com with your availability. Please attach your acting resume and headshot if you have either (not required). Walk-ins will be seen, but may have to wait for the next open slot.

All actors will be asked to read monologues or scenes from the play. A prepared piece is not required. Sides will be posted online and emailed to actors about a week before the audition.

Video Audition Option
If you cannot make it to the in-person auditions, you are welcome to submit a self-tape. Please record a cold read of one or two of the monologues of your choice from the audition sides. Actors may also include a cold read of a scene if they have a scene partner to read the other character(s) off-camera. (Actors auditioning for Brucie/Evan, please record a monologue or scene for each character.)

Video submissions are due by Monday March 30th at 3:00 PM. Email your video to director Samantha deManbey at scdemanbey@gmail.com. Please attach your audition form with your full availability, plus your acting resume and headshot if you have either (not required).

Roles: All characters were born in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
JASON (White, 20s) – Tracey’s son, works at the local factory, and happy with that lifestyle.
CHRIS (Black, 20s) – Cynthia’s son, works at the local factory, but has bigger dreams.
OSCAR (Hispanic, 20s) – Hard working and humble busser at Stan’s bar.
TRACEY (White, 40s-50s) – Longtime factory worker, always ready to fight.
CYNTHIA (Black, 40s-50s) – Longtime factory worker, cool-headed, recently promoted.
JESSIE (White, 40s) – Longtime factory worker, struggling with a recent breakup.
STAN (White, 50s) – Local bar owner that tries to get along with everyone.
EVAN/BRUCIE (Black, 40s) - A single actor will play both parts:
EVAN – Parole officer.
BRUCIE – Cynthia’s husband, proud union member and advocate.

This staged reading is proudly supported by the Lancaster Cultural Council and the Ashby Public Library.
