Formed in the North Carolina high country, the roots-rock trio (Joseph Houck, Jeff Martin, and Martin Moore) delivers a special brand of Americana music. From acoustic folk to rollicking blues, the group’s versatile live sound blends engaging originals with pleasing covers.
Hailing from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, singer-songwriter Joseph Houck began his musical journey by drawing from his family’s eclectic tastes and a local tradition of mountain music. His passion for creative writing infuses his songs with a focus on storytelling.
In 2011, Houck’s music gained wider attention when he was named “Soundclouder of the Day,” introducing his songs to a new online audience. Since then, he has self-released a series of albums that reflect his artistic growth. Starting with the acoustic folk EP Forgotten (2012), he followed with the folk-rock album Roam (2015), a work praised by critics for its "Appalachian in spirit" sound and "finely crafted songwriting." He then explored a darker, more introspective approach with Congeries (2018), before collaborating with Bryan Ciliberto on the 2023 album Haunts & Wants, a project that blends folk, soul, and rock 'n' roll.
His latest release, the EP Blue Ridge Mountain Waterfalls, is a collection of songs that have been described by reviewers as a "marvelously written set" that captures a sense of "transportive beauty."
