Thrive Lemon Grove proudly presents: SPOKEN WORD: Verses in the Key of Truth (E♭)
Join us for a powerful, soul-stirring evening of spoken word, set against the vibrant rhythms of live jazz—featuring trumpet, bass, and percussion.
Verses in the Key of Truth (E♭) brings rhythm, resistance, and raw truth to the Lemon Grove Farmers Market on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Treganza Heritage Park, located at 3200 Main Street, Lemon Grove, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
This is not just a performance—it’s a living poem. In this unforgettable experience, verse meets vibrato, and the spirit of community rises with every note.
The evening is written and curated by Calvin Manson, an award-winning director, poet, artist, and community arts leader, known for blending lyricism with activism. A veteran of national literary stages, Manson brings his signature depth and dynamic flow to a cast of powerhouse voices, including: Iris Anderson, Kim Callaway, Portia Gregory, Rene’ Minnietee, and Guest Vocalist: Leslie Green
Their words will rise beside a live jazz trio that doesn’t simply accompany the poets—they amplify every truth spoken. The musicians are: Thomas Alforqué on trumpet and jembe, Cecil McBee, Jr. on bass, and Danny King on percussion
The evening will be hosted by Jacquelyn Clark (MC), who brings warmth, wisdom, and heartfelt connection to this soulful community celebration.
Bring a chair or a blanket, find your place, and let story, sound, and spirit guide your evening.
At Lemon Grove, don’t just shop. Feel. Witness. Listen. See the poet.
