We're engaging four communities in East Suffolk, to start conversations about energy use and renewable energy generation that can benefit the local area.Community-led energy projects keep benefits local – from investment in local facilities and projects, and opportunities for cheaper energy bills. When communities lead energy projects, they create solutions that work for everyone – helping to tackle rising energy costs, improve energy security, and reduce our climate impact.Local people know their area and are best placed to shape solutions that work for everyone. That's why we are inviting residents in the Leiston area to join a discussion about the role community-owned renewables could play in the way we generate energy. All voices and views are welcome as we work together to discuss a way forward.If you can't make the event we will be carrying out additional engagement after the workshop, which will include a follow-up survey. If you'd like to stay up to date, please fill in this form and we'll share all relevant information with you.Introductory webinarIf you would like to get a better understanding of what community energy is before the workshop, you can watch this introductory webinar on our website here (scroll towards the bottom of the page).What is the workshop?Net Zero Leiston invite you to join this interactive workshop to share your thoughts on community energy in the area, getting your views as local people.Net Zero Leiston are working alongside East Suffolk Council and have partnered with the Centre for Sustainable Energy, who will lead the workshop, and Community Energy England and Ashden who will support the workshop and further engagement events.What will happen in the workshop?We will explore what community energy is, what renewable energy could happen in your area and how it could benefit your community, through a mix of presentations, group activities and whole-room discussion.The workshop is aimed at anyone who lives or works around the Leiston area. Everyone is welcome - if you have an opinion on community energy, we want to hear it. You don’t need to know anything about community energy as there will be information provided during the workshop.Food will be provided as part of this event.AccessibilityThe venue is fully accessible and has accessible toilets. If you have any further requests please let us know when bookingWhat happens after the workshop?After the workshop, a written summary of what was discussed will be publicly available. A survey will then be shared, for people who weren't at the workshop to add their thoughts and ideas to what was discussed. We will also be carrying out further engagement in the community to try and speak to those who were less represented at the workshop.Data ProtectionIn signing up to this event, you will be asked to share your name and email address. The information you provide will be stored on a secure database by the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE). Your data will be shared with project partners Net Zero Leiston, East Suffolk Council, Community Energy England and Ashden. We will use this information to contact you only about the workshop and follow-up engagement.Your information will be held for three years after this form is completed, after which it will be deleted.
