𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳 aus Las Vegas nennen ihren Sound „k-goth“. Die Band verbindet Darkwave, Post-Punk, Shoegaze und Dream Pop mit koreanischen und englischen Lyrics, Visual-Kei-Einflüssen und einer klaren Nähe zu klassischem Goth- und Ethereal-Wave-Sound.

Gegründet wurde Past Self von Sung an Gesang und Gitarre, æther an den Keys und Spektor am Bass. Die Band ging aus dem früheren Projekt Luxury Furniture Store hervor und entwickelte sich ab 2020 in eine dunklere, ätherischere Richtung. Unter dem Namen Past Self erschienen seit 2023 mehrere Veröffentlichungen, darunter die EP Die Cry Hate, die Premonitions EP und die Single 약속 / Yaksok.

In ihren Songs treffen koreanische und englische Lyrics auf hallende Gitarren, kühle Synths und einen Sound zwischen Darkwave, Shoegaze und Post-Punk. Dabei geht es nicht nur um Stilreferenzen, sondern auch um Entfremdung, Erinnerung, Identität und das Gefühl, zwischen verschiedenen kulturellen Räumen zu stehen.

Past Self haben sich in der US-Goth-Szene in kurzer Zeit deutlich sichtbar gemacht und standen bereits mit Acts wie Mareux, Drab Majesty, Twin Tribes, Pink Turns Blue und Vision Video auf dem Billing..
