Parking instructions: ..Parking for about 10 cars at the top of the drive The drive is steep and has a rough patch just after the barn- build up a bit of speed as you start up the drive , or if you’re fit park at the barn and walk up - you’ll get a good work out! Join us for a special home visit! A little bit about your garden: Grant and I bought this property in 2021 and I started re-vegetation planting while we waited for resource and building consents. I’ve planted around 4000 plants with the occasional help of friends. We have heritage sites on the property,- Kumara pits and middens.We have springs and large rocks on the tops of the hills, we have great views and great winds. We have a rabbit problem and tasty plants need enclosing in cages to protect them. I’m involved in a local trapping group, to help protect the local bird life we have kaka kookaburra, banded rail and in the breeding season a parade of quail families on the prowl for food and the odd visit from kiwi. A friend helped me clear the bush of ginger and climbing asparagus, there are 48 W**d mat bags in the bush with rotting ginger roots and climbing asparagus. It’s a work in progress! Please no pets as wildlife like banded rail nesting at the property. health and safety: We have very little flat land if you want to come for a wee walk bring a walking pole and gumboots- its squishy underfoot After the swap we will be able to do a garden tour and those who have time can stay for morning tea - Please feel free to bring a plate to share. Attendees come from all over the region and we welcome new greenswappers. The group gather at the Matakana Wharf every Friday morning during summer, twice a month in autumn and spring. On quite a regular basis we also visit some outstanding properties where there are so many take home messages. Learning never stops! The variety of items brought and swapped at Greenswap demonstrates the community's interest in homegrown and homemade goods. In addition to this the group share resources and knowledge for cultivation and practical gardening know-how. The vibrant and diverse nature of Greenswap means the swap is not just limited to the amazing array of fruit, vegetables, homemade baking and preserves. A broader interest beyond edibles includes seaweed and comfy tonic, worm tea, vegetable and flower seedlings, candles, finger limes, herbal remedies, banana pups, flowers and plants, kombucha, compost for the garden, herbs like garlic chives, sorrel, rosemary, mint and basil to name just a few.
