Join us and have a go at furniture upcycling.About this EventMy:ND Space CIC is a supportive, peer led project for the Neurodivergent Community - with or without a formal diagnosis.Ruth, who runs this project, says..."Being Neurodivergent has many challenges. It can be quite isolating at times and some people often feel misunderstood, like they don’t ’fit in’ and can struggle to thrive in a world suited to neurotypical people. I found my calm in the chaos that goes on in my brain as a neurodivergent adult by Upcycling wooden furniture. It gave me an outlet and massively improved my mental health and emotional wellbeing. So, I thought, why not share it with other Neurodivergent adults!? There is very little peer support out there when you're waiting for a diagnosis and very little afterwards, and although some people might not need it, for others being around other neurodivergent people can help massively. It can give a sense of belonging, provide a safe space to be your authentic self, in a space where you don’t have to worry about being judged or mistreated."In this session you get to have a go at an activity we feel is really beneficial to our health. We have furniture, paints, and space to share. We're asking for a £15 ticket contribution to cover some of the operational costs incurred. We provide the furniture, paint and materials needed.This workshop is for adults of any gender identity, who consider themselves to be neurodivergent. You do need to be able to work independently as you will be expected to be able to work unsupervised (this is not 1-1 tuition), to keep yourself safe and to be able to do your own furniture prep and painting.Group size is limited to 6 places. Demand for these sessions is quite high so if you cannot make it please cancel your booking in advance to allow other people to book. It also means we can plan and prepare for the right amount of attendees. If you want a video or any more information about the workshop space, or want to visit first - that can be arranged. Drinks, biscuits and great company all included.These sessions are located in a workshop environment so please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty / paint on. Please arrive on time to start at 11:30am.NB. It is not expected that you will finish a piece of furniture in the 3 hour session time. The session is to learn the essentials of Upcycling in a Neurodivergent environment. it is not therapy, counselling or 1-1 tuition. But a group of likeminded people sharing a creative space to have a go at furniture Upcycling.
