Het Santos Latif González Trio bestaat uit drie echte virtuozen uit de Braziliaanse muziekscene: mandolinist Tiago Santos, een van de belangrijkste artiesten in de hedendaagse Braziliaanse 10-snarige mandolinescene; 7-snarige gitarist en cavaco (klein gitaarachtig instrument)-speler Nelson Latif; en percussionist Mariano González. Samen spelen ze klassiekers uit de Braziliaanse jazz, oftewel Musica Instrumental Brasileira, van namen als Tom Jobim, Sivuca en João Pernambuco, maar ook composities van Tiago Santos, die op zijn vijf albums verschenen.
Tiago Santos is mandolinespeler, multi-instrumentalist, componist en musicoloog. Hij geeft wereldwijd concerten, cursussen en workshops, waarbij hij verschillende achtergronden en elementen uit Braziliaanse, Latijns-Amerikaanse en andere klassieke muziekgenres combineert. Hij heeft vijf albums uitgebracht, waarvan Ludicamente (2023) de meest recente is.
Cavaco en akoestisch gitarist Nelson Latif vormde zijn muzikale identiteit in de legendarische jazzscene van São Paulo in de jaren 80. Met wortels in choro en jazz combineert Latif Braziliaanse stijlen en een klassieke gitaartechniek met diverse muzikale invloeden. In zijn melodieuze frasering hoor je bebop en Braziliaanse syncopen.
Mariano González is multi-instrumentalist en musicoloog, die zich momenteel richt op de drum’talen’ van de Yoruba in Nigeria. Tijdens zijn diverse studiereizen naar Brazilië, Cuba, Nigeria, Zuid-Afrika, Mozambique en Kenia ontwikkelde Mariano een unieke stijl, waarbij hij ernaar streeft om belangrijke spirituele en muzikale elementen van het Afrikaanse erfgoed te respecteren in een hedendaagse setting.

The Santos Latif González Trio consists of three real virtuosos from the Brazilian music scene: the mandolinist Tiago Santos, one of the main artists in the contemporary Brazilian 10-string mandolin scene; the 7-string guitarist and cavaco (small guitar-like instrument) player Nelson Latif; and percussionist Mariano González. Together they perform classics of Brazilian Jazz, or Musica Instrumental Brasileira, from names such as Tom Jobim, Sivuca, and João Pernambuco, but also compositions of Tiago Santos, that were released on his five albums.
Tiago Santos is a mandolin player, multi-instrumentalist, composer and musicologist. He has been performing concerts and giving courses and workshops worldwide, mixing different backgrounds and elements of Brazilian, Latin American, and other classical musical genres. He has released five albums of which Ludicamente (2023) is the latest.
Cavaco and acoustic guitar player Nelson Latif formed his musical identity in the legendary jazz scene of 1980's São Paulo. With roots in choro and jazz, Latif merges Brazilian styles and a classical guitar technique with diverse musical influences. In his melodic phrasing one hears bebop and Brazilian syncopations.
Mariano González is a multi-instrumentalist and musicologist, currently focusing on the drum languages of the Yoruba in Nigeria. Throughout his diverse study trips to Brazil, Cuba, Nigeria, South Africa, Mozambique and Kenya, Mariano developed a unique style that seeks to respect key spiritual and musical African heritage elements in contemporary settings.
