Deze Texaan loopt al decennia mee en lijkt alleen maar beter te worden. 
Zijn debuutalbum Too Long In The Wasteland verscheen in 1989. Vorig jaar kwam hij met zijn elfde, The Black Dog And The Wandering Boy, waarop hij ‘zingt alsof hij in de kroeg een verhaal tegen je ophangt, en jij maar blijft luisteren’, aldus de Volkskrant-recensie.  
Dat album is intussen uitgegroeid tot McMurty's meest succesvolle album ooit en eindigde dan ook op nummer 1 in de eindejaars lijst van de Euro Americana Chart, en ook hoog in de jaarlijsten van de Rolling Stone, Mojo, No Depression, Spin, Pitchfork. 
Muzikaal bestrijkt de Texaan het hele americana-spectrum, zijn teksten zijn scherpe portretten van ‘gewone’ mensen, zoals Springsteen en Steve Earle dat ook kunnen. Texas Asian Americana sweetheart BettySoo (ook te horen op The Black Dog) komt mee als speciale gast! 

 BettySoo is een singer-songwriter uit Austin en maakt al een lange tijd prachtige muziek. Hoewel bij het grote publiek onbekend zou haar nieuwe album If You Never Go Away dat zomaar eens kunnen gaan veranderen. Ze beschikt namelijk over een warme, heldere (engelen)stem, heel mooi.....
