🌿 Renske Onstein
“Botanical consequences of the megafauna extinctions”
What happens when the giants disappear? Many plants rely on large animals to disperse their seeds—a partnership that goes back millions of years. But with megafauna like giant lemurs and elephant birds long gone, how are plants coping today? Renske takes us to the rainforests of Madagascar in search of “megafruits” and answers to what happens when ecological relationships are broken… and whether humans are stepping in as unexpected replacements.

“The Netherlands: waterland or mosquito paradise?”
As the Netherlands gets wetter, mosquitoes are thriving. But what does that mean for us? Jordy explores how climate change and water management are reshaping mosquito populations—and what that could mean for mosquito-borne diseases. The good news? Biodiversity might be one of our best defenses.
