Kantha is an ancient embroidery tradition from Bengal, created by layering and stitching together old fabrics to give them a new life. This sustainable practice demonstrates how textiles were repaired, reused and transformed long before modern concerns about waste and hyperconsumption.The session will begin with a guided tour at DMU Museum at 10.00am, where we will explore kantha within the collection and discuss textile traditions and heritage. The workshop will then start at 10.30am at Leicester Castle, where you will learn the basics of Kantha stitching and create your own embroidered design.Please arrive promptly. If you are unable to attend the museum tour or arrive after 10.15am, please go directly to Leicester Castle and do not come to the museum.These workshops are free to attend thanks to funding support and places are in high demand. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket as soon as possible so that someone on the waiting list can take your place.
