Join us to visit buildings and memorials in the city, pausing for a little information along the way. We lightly touch on places of interest associated with the Boer War, WWI and WWII, and the threat of the cold war. We include factories involved in the war effort, memorials to the fallen and stories of some of the soldiers. This is a different walk to our 'focus on WWI' themed walk, earlier in November. Both walks are led by one of our Walk Volunteers with an interest in the subject.This short walk is free to attend, but numbers are limited so please book via Eventbrite to secure your place or phone 0116 454 2860 when booking has opened. Please note our phone line is answered during office hours only (Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm), not at weekends or bank holidays.If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or contact us by phone (during office hours) so we can allow others the opportunity to attend.New WalkersIf you have not walked with Leicester City Council before we will ask you to complete our Walker Registration form in advance of the walk online or by phone. You will receive an email with a link to the online form in the days leading up to the event. You only need to do this once and can attend any of our walks thereafter (subject to booking a place on Eventbrite).Dress for the weatherRemember to dress appropriately for the weather. Our group walks will go ahead in most weather. We recommend the following:Comfortable sturdy footwearBring a raincoat or umbrella in case of rainOn cooler days wear appropriate layers and a coat/jacketPlease bring a bottle of water with you.Group sizeWe are keeping our group sizes manageable so that all our walkers feel comfortable attending the walk.Self-guided routesIf you have been unable to book onto one of our group walks, or you prefer to explore with your family or friends, self-guided routes are available to download from the routes page of our Choose How You Move website or via the Go Jauntly smartphone app. For other ideas, do check out our Walk Inspiration page which features walk videos and quiz trails.
