On Friday and Saturday, August 8-9, it’s a weekend of Critters, Klowns, and Ernest as The Mahoning Drive-In Theater and Creature Feature Weekend welcome The Chiodo Brothers back for a celebration of their decades-long monsteriffic FX work, with two nights of 35mm triple features, the Chiodos in person, and more monstery mayhem! It’s the return of Chiodo-Con at The Mahoning Drive-In!
The Chiodo Brothers (Stephen, Charles and Edward) have bought stop-motion, puppetry and practical FX magic to the big and small screens since the 80s, with memorable moments in such films as PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, ROBOCOP, UHF, THE SIMPSONS, the CRITTERS series, MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON, and KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE!
We’ll be welcoming the Chiodos back to the mammoth Mahoning lot for this event, to meet fans and sell photos and autographs, and answer your decades-long burning questions!
After you meet the Chiodos in person, thrill to witness their wild work on the giant Mahoning screen!
Friday night is CRITTERS night, with the first three films in the series on the big, BIG Screen! When the cute and not-so-cuddly CRITTERS (1986) land in a small farm town and bring toothy alien chaos, the fate of humanity is in the hands of a farm family and two shape-shifting alien Critter-hunters! We follow that with CRITTERS 2: THE MAIN COURSE (1988), featuring the return of the toothy terrors, and the debut of the giant Critter Ball! Directed by Mick Garris and featuring Eddie Deezen! The night wraps up with CRITTERS 3 (1991), starring Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio!
Saturday night kicks off with ERNEST SCARED STUPID (1991), in which our titular hero unwittingly unleashes hilarious Halloween horror upon a small town in the form of an evil troll, and does his bumbling best to thwart the malevolent monster invasion! Then, we enter the wild world of the interstellar big top when KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE (1988) descend upon a small town to let loose candy-colored carnival carnage! The night wraps up with a super-secret mystery feature, sure to give you the Chiodo Chills!
