Paper Screen Printing - 5 Week Course
5 WEEK EVENING COURSE
WEDNESDAYS 24th APRIL - 22nd MAY 2019
6:30pm - 9:00pm
Explore the exciting process of screen printing onto paper on this 5 week introductory course! You will be guided step-by-step through the process and will develop your confidence as an independent screen printer. You will learn how to register and layer your designs, and print with multiple colours. You will gain an understanding of the photo stencil emulsion technique and will learn how to coat and expose screens. Your tutor will also introduce you to relevant contextual artists and screen printing terminology.
What experience do I need?
No previous experience is necessary. The course is for beginners, or anyone looking to refresh their skills. Those with previous experience may use the course to develop their skills and become familiar with the facilities at our workshop.
What will I make?
You will produce a series of multi layer screen prints of up to A3 size. There is the option to create graphic or fine art prints as well as greetings cards. Your tutor can show you lots of examples of screen prints at your first session to help you understand the different possibilities.
Who is my tutor?
Joanna Wilkinson is a practising printmaker, illustrator and bookbinder. She uses printing, collage, analogue/slow photography and sometimes even old style colouring techniques like felt tips in her work! Joanna is currently studying for a MA Creative Practice at Leeds Arts University and is also a Co-operative Member of Leeds Print Workshop. She has been working with us over the last year as a technician to support our members and courses in screen printing, along with various other printmaking techniques. She has experience in teaching a wide variety of different groups of people including children and adults.
Do I need to bring anything?
All materials are provided; this will include cartridge paper, a range of ink colours, photo sensitive emulsion and all the equipment needed to make screen prints. The workshop also sells a range of printmaking papers should you wish to try something different. Prices range from £1 - £2.20 per sheet. There is also the opportunity to purchase additional screen exposures should you wish to produce more than two designs. One A3 screen coating costs £2.50. It will be useful to bring a portfolio folder along to carry your prints home, we also sell small portfolio folders.
If I can't attend can I get a refund?
We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the course, after which no refunds will be issued. Once booked, you cannot transfer to another course.
What if the course is cancelled?
We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.
