Study how to collect, prepare, mount and incorporate plants into your collection using professional techniques and materials. Gain knowledge of how to clean, maintain and repair historic herbarium specimens. Perfect for beginners, students and non-specialist Natural History curators, this basic course will guide you through the entire process—from curation, maintenance, field collection to creating well-preserved specimens for scientific study and conservation (non-IUCN kind!). Join us and learn how to care for and add to your herbarium with confidence!To facilitate the training of this NatSCA workshop we are very lucky to have enlisted the help of:· Rachel Webster: Senior Curator – Natural History and Curator of Botany at Manchester Museum· Yvette Harvey: Keeper of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Herbarium, Wisley· Nina Davies: Herbarium Curation Manager at the Royal Botanic Gardens, KewWe will be hosted at Leeds Discovery Centre and it will be a full day with tea/coffee provided. Attendees can bring their own packed lunch, avail themselves of Tesco Express or the couple of cafes that are a short walk away. Leeds Discovery Centre is a 25-minute walk from Leeds train station and the main bus station.Members: £60 - please email membership@natsca.org for your membership code.Non-members: £80 - you can join NatSCA for £20, the price difference between this course’s member and non-member rate; you could then enjoy benefits such as further training discounts, our lunchtime chats once a quarter, the excellent journal and a discount to our annual conference! To find out more please email membership@natsca.org.NatSCA BursariesNatSCA does offer a limited number of bursaries for members and this year the Committee is offering:Bursaries of up to £200 each towards in-person training attendance, plus registration fee waived.This sum may be set against your -travel costsaccommodation costsConditions:· Only members of the Natural Sciences Collections Association can apply.· Bursaries are limited to one per person, per year.· All successful applicants must submit an article, for either the NatSCA blog or Notes &amp; Comments (see website), before the bursary can be paid. The subject of the article is to be agreed with the Blog Editor.· Travel costs to be agreed with the Bursary Committee at the earliest possible date.· In the case of competition, preference will be given to people who have not received a bursary previously.· Bursaries are only open to individual members.
