Geoff is renowned in the world of traditional dance, particularly for his role as a caller in American Squares, Contra, and English Ceilidh. His expertise has led him to be a featured caller at prominent national dance festivals such as Whitby, Chippenham, and Sidmouth. Respected by his peers, Geoff also excels in Appalachian dancing, showcasing his talents at various festivals.
Elaine Meechan
Elaine has played piano as far back as she can remember. She has worked as a musician with Folk Camps, has led musicians’ courses at Halsway Manor and was the pianist in Skylark. In Portland Drive she provides the driving, dynamic and rhythmic harmonic structure for the band.
Kathryn Dunphy
Kathryn started playing flute at the age of 9 and studied flute at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. She played in Skylark and mainly plays the flute in Portland Drive but can often be seen (and heard!) playing the alto sax and the clarinet plus, occasionally, recorder and piccolo.
Brian Stone
Master fiddler Brian Stone is justly famous for his exhilarating dance music. Whether or not you know him from Hoedown, Junction 24, Fiddlin’ Around or Fiddlegang, you’ll love his dynamic, uplifting, string rhythms. Whilst still playing with Junction 24, in 1998 he developed the high energy contra ceilidh band, Fiddlin’ Around, which gained a reputation for playing driving contra music. Brian and Elaine have been playing as a duo for the English social dance scene in recent years and continue to promote the more energetic side of contra dance with Portland Drive.
