An herbarium is a curated collection of dried and preserved plants, traditionally used by botanists to study, identify, and catalog plant species over time. These collections become a living record of place and season, capturing not only what grows around us, but when and where it thrives.During the class, John will share techniques for proper collection and preservation as well as some examples of specimens from Bedrock’s own herbarium. A hard bound specimen book is included as part of the class fee.About John FortiJohn is a nationally recognized lecturer, garden historian, ethnobotanist and garden writer. He is the executive director of Bedrock Gardens. Before taking on this new position, he was the Director of Horticulture for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, the oldest horticultural society in the nation. He previously served as the Curator/Director of Historic Landscapes at Strawbery Banke Museum, and as the Director of Horticulture at Plimoth Plantation Museum where the gardens and seed program he created brought international attention to the preservation of Pilgrim and Wampanoag heirloom crops. He is also the author of the much-loved book, The Heirloom Gardener.TicketsTickets are $45 for members (with member discount code) and $55 for non-members which includes a full day pass to the gardens. This workshop is recommended for teens and adults. The ticket price includes a hard-bound specimin collection book.Cancellation Policy: If you are unable to attend, please let us know 48 hours in advance of the class start time in order to receive a refund.
