Bats have charisma. Some people fear 'em, some people love 'em, but when a bat shows up at a party, it’s the only thing anyone's talking about. Author, scientist, and TV personality, Dan Riskin has spent decades learning about these enigmatic creatures - in the jungles of Costa Rica, the forests of New Zealand, the villages of Madagascar, and beyond. In his 40-minute presentation, Dan will use photos, movies, sounds, and stories to bring the biology of bats to life. This event is intended for people of all ages, and will end (weather permitting) with a brief walk outside to search for bats using an ultrasonic bat detector.
Pre-registration is required. Contact us at 519-322-2365, ext. 0 to register.
But wait, there’s more! Dan will also be doing a story time at 11 am on Saturday July 19, followed by a book signing. Books will be available for purchase from the Friends of Point Pelee.
Dan Riskin, PhD, is CTV’s Science and Technology Specialist, and the former co-host of Daily Planet on Discovery. He has authored more than 25 scientific papers about bats, specifically the biomechanics of how they move. Each week Dan publishes The Bat Signal, a free newsletter featuring five quirky science stories and a trivia question. Learn more:
