A divided federal appeals court last Thursday sided with abortion opponents and ruled a Clearwater ordinance creating a buffer zone outside an abortion clinic violates First Amendment rights of anti-abortion protestors. This ruling will have the effect of removing a 5-foot buffer zone enacted through ordinance by the City of Clearwater in 2023. The zone was enacted in an effort to better protect the public, after concerns were raised about the unusual number of calls to police related to public safety at the scene. 

In solidarity with Bread and Roses, the Repro Rights Team will be gathering to watch the HBO short documentary, The Devil is Busy (31 minutes), from 6-7:15 PM in the Allendale Sanctuary, directly following the Social Justice Team's in-person meeting. The Devil is Busy takes viewers behind the scenes of a women’s healthcare clinic in Atlanta, Georgia as the employees, including Tracii, the head of security, carry out their daily work of securing the safety of their patients while providing medical services where clinics face daily threats of danger.

Writing materials will be provided for team members to continue writing to represenatives voicing support for House Bill 6001/Senate Bill 242 (repeals $29.5 million of taxpayer funding for deceptive anti-abortion centers lacking medical or safety standards across Florida). Team leads will also provide updates on the current state of repro bills in the Florida legislature. This meeting will take the place of the Repro Team's reguarly scheduled January meeting.

The film provides an intimate, cinéma vérité-style portrayal of a day at the Feminist Center for Reproductive Liberation, an Atlanta abortion clinic, focusing on Tracii, the director of operations and head of security. It highlights the daily challenges faced by staff and patients, including the constant presence of protesters, the meticulous safety protocols implemented to protect individuals, and the emotional toll of operating in a climate of intense hostility following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Tracii, a deeply religious woman, begins each day with prayer, underscoring her personal commitment to safeguarding patients' access to reproductive healthcare, including abortions and preventive screenings, despite the threats and harassment. The film has been recognized as an award-winning short, premiering on HBO and streaming on Max, and has been featured at film festivals such as Full Frame and DOC NYC.
