- **Event Description**: John P. "Jack" Pogue, Jr is a sixth generation Pogue involved in The Old Pogue Distillery. After a successful business career in sales and owning his own businesses, Jack, Jr. retired to dedicate more time to Old Pogue.  Jack hails from Campbellsville and frequently speaks to bourbon groups on the history of The Old Pogue Distillery, the Pogue Family's contribution to the development of bourbon in Kentucky and on Kentucky bourbon in general.  Jack's knowledge, coupled with his quick wit and sense of humor make his talks fun and informative.

The Old Pogue Distillery was founded as the H.E. Pogue Distillery in 1876.  H.E. Pogue learned distilling at the hands of O.H.P. Thomas a long time successful distiller in the Maysville KY area.  H.e. Pogue acquired the O.H.P. Thomas Distillery and renamed it his namesake.  It was quickly established as one of the largest producers of some of the most sought after whiskies.  Pogue Whisky was immortalized in Charles M. Russell's "In Without Knocking" painting in 1909 as a bottle of Pogue whisky was in the and a case of it was identified on the stoop of the saloon.

H.E. Pogue II steered the distillery until he died in a distillery accident in 1919.  H.E. Pogue III was called back from WW I to run the distillery at the age of 22.  Unfortunately Prohibition began merely a year later halting nearly 50 years of successful whisky making by the Pogue Family.

The 5th and 6th generations of Pogues rekindled the distillery in 2004 using the original family mash bills.  In 2009 the Pogue family reacquired its family homestead in Maysville KY, where it reestablished the distillery and where Pogue whiskies are produced today!
