- **Event Description**: ???????? ?????: Spotlight on Deer: Measuring Their Impact on Local Forests ??

White-tailed deer are now a familiar sight in and around Lawrence, but when the KU Field Station was established in 1947, they were uncommon in Northeast Kansas. How many are out there today, and what impact are they having on local forests?

KU Environmental Studies Field Education Coordinator Bob Hagen will share data from a unique annual survey of deer population density around the field station, and results from an exclosure experiment to assess the effect of deer on the growth and survival of native trees. What do growing deer populations mean for wildlife and landscapes?

Join us to explore the balance between wildlife and fragmented habitats, and to learn how ongoing monitoring and research help inform management and conservation efforts in our region!
