The skills you’ll gain on this immersive day are as useful for a fire bowl as for a camp fire. As part of the day there will be time to focus on any specific aspects of your fire-making technique that you’d like to improve.

What you’ll learn
How to safely turn a tiny spark into a fire that will hold its own, using the percussive method.

Our focus will be on true flint & steel, but you’ll also explore flint & pyrites, which are the most ancient percussive tools, and modern ferro rods.

We’ll look at various tinders that can be foraged, learning how to identify, gather, prep and use them.

We’ll consider different firelays, the safety aspects of making fire outdoors, and ecological considerations.
You’ll also learn how to tend down your fire, leaving no trace.

Fire-making is one of my favourite courses to teach, not just for the fun and empowerment of it but also for the sense of awe and respect you can experience when we work with fire in this way.
