Join us March 21-22nd on an 80 mile overnight bikepacking trip through some of southern Nevada’s scenic backroads and historic settlements to welcome the spring!
This route will wind its way through the Bitter Spring Backcountry Byway, North Shore Road in Lake Mead NRA, and Old Arrowhead Road within Valley of Fire State Park.

Meet at Southwest bikes at 7am and then will drive to start point.
There is FREE overnight parking! 

Day one ≈37 miles. 27 dirt, 10 paved
Traverse bitter springs byway to north shore road with a stop at Roger’s spring for a scenic dinner at the picnic area before camping a little further down the road at Stewart’s point for the night.

Day two ≈38 miles 26 dirt, 12 paved
Head on down to the ghost town of St. Thomas, or at least what’s left. Make our way into valley of fire state park picking up the old arrowhead trail from the elephant rock parking lot. This bypasses most of the park (and traffic) until we take the final stretch of pavement on valley of fire highway back to the meet point.

Recommended equipment.

These dirt roads and trails on this route are exceptionally rough, the ideal bike would be a rigid mountain bike or hardtail with 2.4-2.8” tires. A gravel bike with 2.1” tires will do but may be difficult to pedal in the long sandy washes.
Although there are a few sources of water on this route, they are far and few an will require filtration. Be sure to carry at least 4 liters of water, with 6 recommended for the heavy sweaters.
Be sure to bring an appropriate sleep system for the weather.
Be sure to bring all the Bikepacking standards like tools for your bike, lots of snacks, sunscreen and a great big smile!
There is a warm spring on the route that we will stop at, if you plan on getting in the water bring a swim suite and take care to not submerge your head.
