The event is free and open to the public. 

A Door in the Sky was written, produced, stars, and was crewed by local Las Cruces filmmakers and actors. Writer/director Richard Lacy hopes the concept short will lead to the creation of a full length feature film for A Door in the Sky, leading to continued growth for the burgeoning film industry in Las Cruces and continuing to support homegrown talent and stories. 

“A Door in the Sky is very much a New Mexico centric story & honors the way I grew up here.  Set in the 70s, it echoes the fantastic Spielbergean adventures of that era, but very much has its own original identity.  It’s really about family, transcending grief and connecting with something larger than ourselves.  To be able to fulfill the potential of this piece with local New Mexico filmmakers & craftsman would be a dream worth making a reality.” said A Door in the Sky director, Richard Lacy 

A Door in the Sky begins in early summer, 1977 in the small southwestern town of Las Cruces, New Mexico, when the unthinkable happens. 18 year old physics prodigy Ben West (Blake Bundy), while working with his father, tragically  falls from his Dad’s water well drilling rig. As Ben lies comatose & close to death in the hospital, his younger brothers Steve (Liam Day) and Rick (River Scott), seven year old sister Lori (Skylar Rose) and life long friend Mateo Cruz (Matthew Frietze), receive a  strange signal in Ben’s homemade electronics lab. 

The signal leads to the manifestation of a mysterious alien doorway that could forever alter Ben’s fate, the lives of their family and the destiny of humanity. What is the meaning of the signal and what lies beyond the Door in the Sky?
