John and Ethel Ligero: Share a deep passion for getting the translated Scriptures to those who are still without.
The 10 national Bible translators huddled together with great expectation—they were excited to begin work on a Thai New Testament. Under the leadership of John and Ethel Ligero of Wycliffe Associates, the team had come together to learn the MAST (Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation) strategy, which is greatly accelerating Bible translation around the world.
MAST is a collaborative rapid-translation system in which groups of mother-tongue translators work in parallel to translate books of the Bible while maintaining the highest levels of accuracy and quality. Using this method, translation teams are completing in months what used to take decades.
"We've seen how the hand of God moved," said John Ligero. "In just three months, with 10 translators, the first draft of the New Testament was completed. To God be the glory!"
The final draft of the newly translated Scripture is nearing completion and will soon be available to countless people who are eagerly waiting to read God's Word in their own language.
"We are targeting to complete the New Testament this year, and then the Old Testament in 2018," Ethel Ligero said.
The Ligeros are serving with Wycliffe Associates as MAST field coordinators in Thailand. They are deeply passionate about the work of Bible translation, and they are thrilled to share with others how God is using people of all backgrounds to advance the translated Word faster than ever before.
