About the event

GNCS #11: The Rough & Tumble in support of Music is the Foundation
The 11th concert in The Good Neighbor Concert Series will feature The Rough & Tumble, a touring folk duo that will leave your ears feeling happy and your heart feeling stirred. (You really, really, REALLY don't want to miss this one!)

Thanks to a grant from the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, this concert will be offered FREE to the public! However, we'd still love it if you can register in advance so that we know you're coming.

Our featured nonprofit for this event is Music is the Foundation, led by Ben Hassenger. Ben will also be leading a FREE Ukulele 101 workshop prior to The Rough & Tumble concert, so please note the earlier start time, and register for that as well so that Ben knows how many ukes to bring, though you're welcome to bring your own if you have one. (All ages welcome, no prior musical experience required.)

Additional thanks to our “Advocate”-level sponsor, Michigan Millers Insurance! https://www.mimillers.com/

Although this is a free event, voluntary donations to further support The Good Neighbor Concert Series, The Rough & Tumble, and Music is the Foundation are greatly appreciated.

Concessions will also be available from Honey Bun Bakery & Chengdu Teahouse, with 10% of proceeds going to benefit Music is the Foundation.

We look forward to seeing you!

About The Rough & Tumble:

The Rough & Tumble are a folk/Americana duo, consisting of Mallory Graham & Scott Tyler. Forming in 2011, they spent 8 years full time in a 16ft camper with two big dogs, playing roughly 150 shows a year. At home at festivals, listening rooms, and house concerts across the country, their commanding stage presence, engaging performances and affecting songwriting won them official showcases at Folk Alliance International, NERFA, SERFA and the Independent Music Awards Americana Song of the Year for their song “The Hardest Part".

In 2023 they received recognition for their work in New England as recipients of Club Passim's Iguana Music Fund. Only This Far, the band's most notable work, was released in 2023 and has been described as "quality songs, well written, well played, well sung and arranged, and a pleasure from start to end." In November 2024, The Rough & Tumble released Hymns For My Atheist Sister and Her Friends To Sing Along To, a collection of deeply personal, unifying and uplifting, humanist gospel songs.

About The Good Neighbor Concert Series:

The mission of The Good Neighbor Concert Series (GNCS) is provide a high-quality, inclusive, and accessible listening-room experience, featuring diverse, underrepresented, and emerging musical artists from across Michigan and beyond, where performers, community members, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations can make a positive impact for the Greater Lansing area, and inspire others to do likewise.

Our vision is to transform the Greater-Lansing area into a vibrant, healthy, joyful, and hopeful community where original music and artistry thrive, and where all people are seen, valued, supported, inspired, and empowered to lead authentic and fulfilling lives, in harmony with one another.

GNCS seeks to elevate voices that would otherwise not, or seldom be heard in existing performance spaces, including emerging artists, women, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and other minority and marginalized people and populations, along with other artists whose lives and work clearly exemplify and support a more just, peaceful, kind, healthy, diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible community, state, and world.

We strive to provide a safe gathering place where attendees and artists alike can build life-giving, in-person connections, work toward mutual growth and understanding, and become agents of positive change. We support artists and organizations that share our vision and values, and that believe in goodness for its own sake.

Each event features a different nonprofit organization, which receives a minimum of 10% of the proceeds from ticket sales and concessions. The nonprofit partner organizations also have the opportunity to table at the event so that patrons can learn more, get involved, and/or donate additional funds directly if desired.

The series takes place at Stage One at Sycamore Creek Eastwood ( https://www.facebook.com/stageonemi), a performance venue made available to the Greater-Lansing community by Sycamore Creek Church (SCC), an inclusive, affirming church where diversity is celebrated and all people are welcome.

We look forward to seeing you at one or more shows soon, and thank you for being a part of our journey.

(As always, if you are having a hard time financially and cannot afford a ticket, but would like to attend, please email the organizer, Tania Watt, at dGFuaWF3YXR0Y3JlYXRpdmUgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ== in order to claim a complimentary Pay-It-Forward ticket.)
