About the event

Auditions: Seussical the Musical
Seussical is a whimsical that blends characters and stories from various Dr. Seuss books, including Horton Hears a Who! and Horton Hatches the Egg. This fast-paced, high-energy production will bring to life the many unusual characters in the books of Dr. Seuss that have delighted children for many years.

Ensemble cast members will play multiple roles, ranging from funny to serious, meek to wild and shy to outgoing.

Open auditions will be held on the following dates:
Saturday, March 14 at 1:00PM for Jojo and The Cat in the Hat
Sun & Mon, March 15 & 16 at 7:00PM for the rest of the cast
Callbacks take place on an invitation-only basis: Tuesday, March 17 at 7:00 PM

Performances and Rehearsal Information:
Performances for Seussical will be June 4-7 & 11-14, 2026 on the Main Stage.
Rehearsals are expected to run Sundays-Thursdays in the evenings.

Please Prepare:
-Music- Please prepare one to two minutes of a song that shows off your vocal strengths and storytelling skills. Please choose a song similar in style to Seussical. You may not sing a song from Seussical. You must bring piano sheet music for your chosen song, preferably in a binder. No tracks or singing acapella. -Dance- Be prepared to learn a dance combination and/or improvise a creative dance in the style of a character.

-Acting- Be prepared to read from the script and improvise a short scene. Since there isn’t a lot of dialogue, you may be asked to read lyrics from the libretto. Character Descriptions:
(continued on the back)
Jojo (a boy portrayed between 8-14 yrs old) A “Thinker.” He’s a smart child with a wild imagination whose “Thinks” get him into constant trouble.

The Cat in the Hat (gender neutral, adult any age) The essence of mischief, fun, and imagination. The Cat stirs things up and causes trouble but always sets things right again. Able to improvise with the audience if needed.

Horton the Elephant (Man, adult any age) - A gentle giant who always tries to do the right thing.

Mr. Mayor (Man, adult any age) and Mrs. Mayor (Woman, adult any age) Of Whoville - Mr. Mayor and Mrs. Mayor are parents trying hard to raise a child with a big imagination.

Gertrude McFuzz (Woman, adult any age) - Very self-conscious about her one-feather tail.

Mayzie La Bird (Woman, adult any age)- Self-centered, vain, and manipulative. She ultimately means no harm.

Bird Girls #1, #2 and #3 (Women, adult any age) - A fabulous group of birds who support Mayzie throughout the show.

The Wickershams #1, #2 and #3 (Gender neutral, any age) – A jungle gang that monkeys around – teasing and playing pranks. (Gymnastics and/or acrobatic experience helpful)

Vlad Vladikoff (Gender neutral, any age) – An eagle ally of the Wickershams.

Sour Kangaroo (Woman, adult any age) - Loud, brassy, and a lot of fun. She’s got a lot of attitude but isn’t mean.

Young Kangaroo (Girl, portrayed between 7-10 years old) - Sour Kangaroo’s feisty daughter

General Genghis Khan Schmitz (Man, adult any age) - A Who General who is bursting with pride.

The Grinch (Man, adult any age) – You know the one. He’s reformed and leads the Christmas pageant.

Yertle the Turtle (Gender neutral, adult any age) - The authoritative judge who presides over Horton’s trial.

Thing #1 and #2 (Gender neutral, any age) – Imaginary creatures who move the play along.

Ensemble (Gender neutral, all ages 10yrs and up) – Whoville Citizens Jungle Citizens, Hunters, Circus Animals, Fish, Hunches, Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuss.
