"Kindness" by Adam Rapp is a dark comedy that follows a mother, Maryanne, and her teenage son, Dennis, as they escape their troubled life in Illinois for a weekend in New York City. While Maryanne, who is suffering from cancer, seeks to bond with her son by attending a Broadway show, Dennis prefers to stay in their hotel room, where he encounters a mysterious young woman named Frances, leading to a series of unsettling and revealing interactions that explore themes of sympathy and the complexities of their relationship.

Maryanne:
She is portrayed as a vivacious, yet fragile woman, grappling with the aftermath of her divorce and battling illness. She is determined to experience a popular Broadway musical, even if her son doesn't share her enthusiasm.
Dennis:
He is a typical, angsty teenager, resistant to his mother's attempts to connect and uninterested in the musical.
Frances:
She is a young, enigmatic woman who intrudes into Dennis's hotel room, initiating a conversation filled with unusual, sometimes unsettling, pronouncements.
Herman:
He is a kind, divorced cab driver who offers Maryanne companionship at the musical.
