Gerry gründete Band of Friends 2012, nachdem er seine verlorene Vinylsammlung entdeckt hatte. Nachdem er sich alle Platten von Rory Gallagher angehört hatte, auf denen er in den 20 Jahren, die er mit Rory spielte, gespielt hatte, beschloss er, mit der Band und seinem alten Kumpel aus der Rhythmusgruppe, Ted McKenna, auf Tour zu gehen. Leider haben wir Ted 2019 verloren, sodass die Band seitdem verschiedene Besetzungswechsel durchgemacht hat. Brendan Oneill spielte von 1981 bis 1991 mit Rory und war auf den folgenden Alben zu hören: Jinx / Defender / Fresh evidence.  Er tourte 10 Jahre lang mit Rory um die Welt. Stephan Graf wuchs mit Rorys Musik auf und gründete seine eigene Band „Double vision“, die Rory gewidmet war. Er war Gast auf 2 Alben von Band of Friends: „Spotlight on the G Man“ Volume 1
