These weekends are for wingsuit pilots who want to be the best pilot they can be. Pilots who are looking to improve their skills in the fastest time possible.
It's only through competition with each other, or with ourselves, that we truly progress.
There are two competition categories. Performance and Acrobatics.
PERFORMANCE increases the envelope. Increases your control range. Fastest (speed), furthest (distance) & longest (time). Find your optimal body position for each.
ACRO increases the fine control needed to fly alongside each other in a tight formation.
Primarily each weekend would be:
1. pairs of jumpers (with a 360cam) working on acro skills.
and/or
2. solo jumpers working on their performance skills.
But we can flex to accommodate.
ACRO PLANS: Training would be based around one of the blocks from the divepool. Do as many jumps as you like to perfect it. Suggest 3 attempts total with two training jumps and a competition jump. Training would be on a regular lift. No more than 2 wingsuiters per lift. Fly a regular J pattern, one each way.
If you don't have a 360 cam, then a regular action camera is acceptable. If you have neither and you are doing acro then we will try and pair you with a friend who has a camera. No promises.
PERFORMANCE PLANS: Training would be on a regular lift. No more than 2 wingsuiters per lift. Fly a regular J pattern, one each way, but be sure to be facing the DZ by the time the performance window opens.
Opens: 2500m / 8202 feet
Closes: 1500m / 4921 feet
You will most likely want to compare your performance on consecutive jumps so you will need a GPS logger, eg Flysight, SkyTrax, or equivalent. Note that only the FlySight will give you audible feedback during freefall. The SkyTrax is for post jump debrief purposes only. If you wish to borrow a GPS logging unit you will need to make this arrangement in advance with a friend who has one they are not using.
DEBRIEFS: As required during the day if possible but not at the expense of jumping. Also evening group debriefs over pizza in the bar in the evening. The friendly and supportive vibe after Nationals was most excellent. Let’s replicate that.
MONEY: Nominal registration fee of £10 per weekend going towards coach meals and refreshments. Top tier coaches have the right to charge a day rate - this could be shared.
LANDING OFF: Everyone should be competent enough to land on the PLA on every jump. If you land off there needs to be an 'offering'. This offering can be in the form of liquid refreshments (cash behind the bar), a funny story shared, a confession shared or perhaps a performance (eg a song) to entertain the group.
